INSARM is the brainchild of Shri.MK Abdul Majeed, an eminent scientist from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO, Trivandrum, with a vast experience in the field of aerospace and related mechanisms. It was inaugurated in 22nd June 1999 by Bharat Ratna Dr.APJ.Abdul Kalam and Prof. Satish Dhawan, renowned scientists who spearheaded the scientific community in the field of Space Research in India. INSARM primarily focuses in promoting R & D activities in the field of space mechanisms and in encouraging widespread dissemination of knowledge and skills, gained through various institutions with technical know-how, among its peers.

INSARM had progressively developed with headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram and chapters at Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad; and had conducted various National level seminars, conferences, workshops with active participation from academia, industries, commercial organizations and individual specialists. Apart from the aerospace mechanisms for launch vehicles and satellites, INSARM also strive towards endorsing new researches and innovations with major thrust in areas, like mechanisms for robotics, smart mechanisms & micro-mechanisms, mechanisms for bio-engineering & medical applications, oceanography and docking related fields.

With more than 1000 members from various institutions and organizations, INSARM attempts to endow with both a technical and social platform for personnel involved in the field of mechanisms and to offer technological interchange for others with the interest in the same field.
